Intriguing world where an evil and corrupt local official is obsessed with getting magical artifacts by any means possible. He's opposed by a Zorro-like nobleman who is in love with the daughter of a local wealthy couple. In his day persona, they're engaged, but his nighttime one seems to attract her more, leaving him with a dilemma. There's plenty of darkness and evil here, nice romance and a dandy chase through a strange dead city at the end. I liked it, but felt it could have been 50 pages shorter. This book took me insanely long. I don’t know if it was because it was a really long book or if I was just less interested in it? I’ll just start with saying that this wasn’t my type of book, but it could be good for others so… let me start with the positive things about this book. I really liked how the religion played into the fantasy element, I’m used tot there being some sort of religion in fantasy books but there usually isn’t a focus on it. Here that was the case and I actually really enjoyed it. The mystery that gradually got discovered was also a good part of the book. On the other hand it really was too much about the love interest to my liking. The main character just started loving her literally the second he saw her. But it didn’t really feel like love at first sight, he was just immediately ready to kill people that hurt her or smtn and it just felt very odd. It would’ve been better had the main character not made so many decisions just because of his love for her. Overall I’d give it around 3/5 stars because I enjoyed some of it. Looking forward to the next one to see what happens to Marek!nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

There is a lot going on. We are treated to a lot of characters and story threads. The author does a good job of weaving those threads together to keep the reader engaged and continue the storyline / plot across multiple character POVs. We have a hero who is learning to embrace his duty paired with a powerful love story. The story has so many layers of detail and lore that I was always left guessing about who might pop up next or what their next move would be. The only problems I had was that it was too much about the love interest to my liking. The main character just started loving her literally the second he saw her. But it didn’t really feel like love at first sight, he was just immediately ready to kill people that hurt her. It just felt very odd. It would’ve been better had the main character not made so many decisions just because of his love for her.
