This abridgement of a classic by John Owen is a short, yet powerful book. Though this book was written several centuries ago, there is a dire need for the truths it exposes now. Owen is careful, thoughtful, analytical, and most importantly, biblically saturated. He shows how dangerous temptation is, poor ways to remedy the problem, and a gospel-centred approach to addressing temptation. This book should and ought to be read by all Christians today. But note, it is not for the faint of heart. His words cut deep into the a person's being and exposes both the utter depravity of our hearts, and the majesty of God's glory and mercy. In this abridgement of John Owen{u2019}s classic work titled Of Temptation, the famous Puritan theologian opens up Matthew 26:41, carefully explaining what temptation is and what it means to enter into it. He then shows how Christ teaches two means for Christians to use in order to guard against this danger, namely watching and praying. Owen helpfully applies his teaching, explaining how we can know whether we have entered into temptation, what practical steps we should take to preserve our souls from entering into it, how to identify those particular times when people tend to enter into temptation, and showing us the best ways of watching the heart itself. - Publisher.
