When inventor Godfrey Davis arrived at the ministry that Monday morning he had his first experience of the new phenomenon. There was something wrong with the aging android fleet that served the colony. Since when did they ever have names? The president's visit to his office later that morning gave credence to his earlier experience in the foyer, and somehow his long deceased father now seemed implicated. As Godfrey's week spiralled out of control the future of the colony was now in jeopardy, and it was all because of him. This has been my first read of the author. This read is centered on his obsession with automation and the digital world, as well as a political backdrop sprinkled with dry wit humor. This is one of its own kind and would definitely keep you hooked if you like Sci fi drama types read.
The central character is Godfrey Davis who is inventor by profession and living a peaceful life unless he observed something weird with the aging Android fleet which has been serving the colony.
This observations leads to other subplots which would help in seamlessly carrying the story ahead with the introduction of several other characters.
I was impressed with the writing style and interesting weaving of the subplots.
It seems as if the writer was imagining himself as a part of the story. That has helped to look the characters seems real in their sci fi world.
The read is one of its kind and a definite read for passionate readers. It will be a good company for a dry travel. ( )

Our Blue Orange by A. R. Merrydew is a fictional piece of work where the main character, Godfrey Davis, puts everything and everyone in danger when one of his newest pieces of technology is left unattained and the AI, the androids from that colony, start to act strangely, for example, giving one another names.

One of the aspects that I enjoyed about this book is the funny remarks, jokes, and situations that Godfrey exchanges and finds himself in with his own consciousness and the other characters. Several times, it made me giggle and laugh. For example, when he first notices that the androids have names, Norman and Rupert, and the funny misunderstanding with the water and "their bickering" that resembled that of a human, or the remarks and the big scare Mother had when she had reached the top of the mammoth construction, I also liked the good work the author did in portraying emotion throughout his human and mechanical characters. From anger, confusion, fear, hope, etc., each one of them reached me. ( )

Interesting characters, AI gone wrong, and time travel are what you’ll find in the pages of this book. Merrydew does an excellent job of bringing the setting to life with evocative descriptions, and really draws the reader into his unique world. Godfrey was a great MC - he’s accidentally put himself in quite the position, and watching him try and find a way out (time travel being his intended method) made for a fascinating story. The other characters were all unique in their own ways, and made up quite the cast. If you’re looking for a new twist on some fairly standard sci-fi tropes, then you’re going to enjoy this story. ( )

Author A.R. Merrydew does a great job of setting up an appealing cast of characters in Our Blue Orange, most especially Godfrey (our protagonist). There is plenty of drama ,weird and plucky androids and lots of action to be had in this fascinating sci-fi novel.

Inventor Godfrey Davis has put the whole colony in jeopardy by leaving his new invention un-attended and the only way to save civilisation and also redeem himself in the process is to find his late fathers secret invention and turn back time, however the past was about to catch up and throw chaos in the works!

These strange and weird characters entertained, each have their own personality traits and I really loved them. The plot line gripped me from early on, and the humor had me smiling at some of the plucky dialogue and events that played out. If you have even a passing interest in sci-fi, as this is a lot more than a sci-fi novel, and love to be entertained and have a giggle whilst reading, then I suggest you give Our Blue Orange a read. The author's unique blend of talent and humor shines in Our Blue Orange, a captivating story that hooks the reader from the very first page. The narrative is one-of-a-kind, filled with warmth, touches of humor, and confusing moments that challenge the reader's perception of reality. The book features a bunch of quirky characters, including malfunctioning androids, fuzzy sand critters with the same thoughts, and pacifist A.I. weapons that prefer delivering weather reports. It's a story that transcends age groups and stays in the reader's mind long after the last page. With the potential for a fantastic screen adaptation, this book is highly recommended. ( )
