I tried to read this book. I really did. After all, I am interested in the subject matter. Unfortunately, I failed. I only made it through the first three soporific chapters.

MacColloch assumes a pedantic style. Even so, he was unable to keep a distinctly Christian perspective from dominating this book. To write objectively about a religion, you must leave your own behind. (
