I loved this as much as the previous three books in the series but it definitely took a more serious tone with both the murder they solve and the personal lives of the main characters. I am so glad a friend reccommended this series, it has been an absolute joy to read. I always enjoy this series and it still plays like a mini-series in my mind. In my series, Art Malik plays Ibrahim and Penelope Wilton plays Joyce. I’m still thinking about the best actors for the other characters. Despite being a little too young for their club, I think I’d fit right in. 4 stars because it’s such a feel good story and those characters are so well drawn. With The Bullet that Missed still fresh in my mind, I couldn’t wait to get started on The Last Devil To Die. The gang are devastated when an old friend is assassinated and vow to track down his killer plunging them into the shady worlds of antique dealing, drug smuggling and ancient artefacts. There are lots of new characters, Canadian bear Garth being a personal favourite, and all the old faces are back to add their two pennies’ worth. Reflective, philosophical and thought-provoking, The Last Devil To Die strikes a more sombre tone. It explores themes of mortality, memory and memory loss. The reality of death, through ageing or living on a knife edge, is pondered, accepted and acted upon. The importance of keeping memories close for comfort, reassurance and validation to carry on and face the future as well as unearthing buried memories are embraced. The cruel heartbreak of dementia takes it toll. Little shards are retrieved and become key to character development and plot. I did enjoy reading TLDTD although I felt it was lacking something compared to the previous three and I guessed whodunnit for the first time! I look forward to what Mr Osman does next! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Shocking news reaches them--an old friend has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing. The gang's search leads them into the antiques business, where the tricks of the trade are as old as the objects themselves. As they encounter drug dealers, art forgers, and online fraudsters--as well as heartache close to home--Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim have no idea whom to trust. With the body count rising, the clock ticking down, and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out? Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
