Cade Easton needs a nanny for his son, whose mother left them both when Luke was 2. Summer, Cade's future sister-in-law, comes up with the idea to have her best friend, Willa, be Luke's nanny for the summer since her job as bartender is temporarily on hold. Cade reluctantly gives in, but is shocked and a little appalled to discover that Willa has no experience with kids. However, he can't deny the magic that Luke and Willa seem to have together as well as his growing attraction to the pretty nanny.

Heartless is the second book in the Chestnut Springs series and has a similar vibe and formula as Flawless, however, the character of Luke adds another layer to this story. Instead of the rodeo, the setting of Heartless is mostly the Wishing Well Ranch where Cade's family lives. Also characters from Flawless appear again in this book, and new characters are introduced that may be featured in future books in the series. There are some angst filled moments in the narrative, but not the amount of emotion to be expected in such a beloved novel. Overall, Heartless is a very entertaining romance that doesn't quite live up to the hype. ( )

I'll admit, I read this book because of the hype. I had wanted to read the series in order, but I skipped Flawless and went right to Heartless because it was landing on so many people's top 10 books of the year lists and as number one in many. Ok, so did it live up to the hype? Yes, and no. It was a solid 4 star book for me. I liked Cade and Willa as a couple. I liked Cade's son Lucas and his relationship with both Willa and his dad. It was adorable actually. The age gap was no big deal, and I got a kick out of Cade's dad. The spicy parts were there, but I didn't need them. I enjoyed the banter more. So, yes. I did like this book. I will be going back to pick up the first book in the series and watching for book three. ( )
