Mercy Thompson meets Vikings in this multi-cultural urban fantasy series. The children of Fenrir are rising whether werewolf seeker Sonya Michaelson likes it or not. As if being the seeker of werewolves tangoing with madness wasn't enough on her plate, a coyote shifter on the run shows up on her doorstep needing help because Navajo women are going missing-skinwalkers to be precise. What's worse, someone is turning them into coyote shifters, which is stripping them of their skinwalker powers.… (altro)

Read the prequel stuff from the other series or at least the preceding novella. I was so confused by the references to previous information. Since I hadn't read the other books, I also couldn't understand how she had this much experience at her... "job?" after only 10 months. BUT. I love this kind of urban fantasy, so I enjoyed it. Choosing a current issue to focus a fantasy storyline around was a fascinating and well-thought-out touch that I appreciated. ( )

This story is a new series that is a continuation of a previous series from what I gather, if I had read the previous series I would probably have given this a higher score, because I was missing some of the worldbuilding from those books. Sonja is learning what her new world and where she is in the world and what her powers can do and at the same time she is enjoying her time with Ty. There's a fair amount of complicated politics where various factions of the ruling class of the werewolf society would prefer that people wouldn't have the power she and her friend have.

it was interesting but I did occasionally feel a little lost, I would read more by this author and I am curious where things will go for Sonja and her friends.

I received this as part of the Early Reviewer Program. ( )

Coyote Calling by Heather McCorkle is a first in the series. I know this is a continuation of a previous series with the same characters. If you haven't read the first series it doesn't matter at all, you can still figure out what is going on. Sonya's past is full of mystery and that aspect plays a big part in this novel. So I loved the action in this book and the friendship between Sonya and Ayra was my favourite part of this book. The extensive world-building was another aspect I thoroughly enjoyed. It was so interesting to read about Icelandic curses and Norse mythology. I'm hoping to read more from this series. ( )

Sonya is a werewolf with a special ability. As the seeker, she helps newly turned shifters control their animal natures and have a chance to survive. With her best friend, Anya, the fated enforcer for the shifters, she has her hands full of shifter politics. But politics have to be put aside when Sonja discovers a mystery. Skinwalker women are going missing, and being forced into becoming coyote shifters. And Sonja discovers her estranged mother is somehow involved in the mystery. With attacks from Coyote shifters, and a boyfriend who seems determined to protect her, Sonya has a lot to learn about being a seeker.

This is the first in a new series about Sonya and Anna following the author’s Children of Fenrir series. While it isn’t necessary to have read the author’s earlier series, it does help with understanding the world of the shifters. Sonya is a complex character. She is determined to be independent and strong, which causes some conflict with her werewolf boyfriend who wants to protect her. This sometimes makes her seem needlessly stubborn. She also is still learning about the world of the shifters and her place in it. This helps the reader learn along with her, but her stubbornness about not trying to learn everything she can makes her character seem a bit annoying at times. I have read some other works by this author and I appreciate the balance between the action, relationships and character development.

I received Coyote Calling as part of the early reviewer program, and wow this was a fun one. Sonya Michaelson is the Seeker, the one who goes out and helps newly bitten shifters. She also happens to be a werewolf with other unusual powers as well, and she uses them all to great effect when solving the main problem she has: who is kidnapping indigenous people with skinwalker abilities and turning them into shifters?

The action starts quickly when Sonya finds a werecoyote who was a kidnapped skinwalker.

I love how incredibly diverse this book is, you have Navajo and Swedish mythology colliding and shifters from quite a few other backgrounds as well. The core characters are very likable and it is enjoyable to read how the get into and out of some sticky situations.

As this was an early reviewer book, I had not read any of the author’s previous works, but I definitely will go back and do that. I hope she has already written how Sonya and Ayra meet because they make quite a cool tag team. I also look forward to the next book!
