The story of two kids who time-travel with their grandmother to Plymouth Plantation on Thanksgiving learn all about the Pilgrims. This book was filled with a ton of good information and fun facts about the Pilgrims and life on Plymouth rock. It even mentioned servants, disease, treaties, and the hard work of farming. The illustrations were busy enough that there are many different things to look at but not to the point that it was distracting. The book uses a lot of speech bubbles to relay information which keeps the book interesting. I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it as a realistic Thanksgiving book for children. ( ) I love the idea of time travel and I'm sure so do a lot of students. The idea of going back in time to recall historical events is such a cool idea to introduce when on social studies. That's how I'd try to introduce certain past events to students. It's something to do and will keep them engaged. While reading, students see how life was during that time and what kind of things people had to do everyday to survive that we don't have to do today. Compared to 300 hundred years ago, we have an easy life with technology and it's something young children should recognize and acknowledge. A Thanksgiving-themed children's book that discusses more than the celebration and foods that are eaten. Diane Stanley writes how the kids are transformed back in time to a new world and even must change their clothes to fit in with the characters back then. The grandmother takes them on a journey to educate about the Indians sail over on the Mayflower, Squanto's role in that society, and how pilgrims actually were related to religion. Here you could show that history could be more like storytelling and interesting. Kids could compare their generations celebrations and traditions with historical people. "Thanksgiving on Plymouth Plantation" would be a great book to read to your class around the time of Thanksgiving. Diane Stanley does a wonderful job of bringing kids out of reality into an imaginative world. The children are taken to their grandmothers house for the holidays where they know their grandmother will take them on a journey. She doesn't just take them on a fun journey, but an educational one that teaches them about how the Pilgrims came over to America and how they lived. This also taught the children the different ways the pilgrims lived from the way people live today. Instead of only teaching the children she has them use their imagination to travel back in time as if they were actually there! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
