Of course, I knew about the Corvette and the Sting-ray concept, but I had no idea that there had been so many others. The book interweaves the history of the concepts with how elements of those concepts made their way into production cars. It includes brief biographies of the men who shaped the Corvette over its life. Definitely gets a place on my shelf! ( )Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. Everyone knows about the Corvette but, did you know that there were many versions of this famous car that were made, tested, showed to the public at various car shows and even driven by GM executives. That is what this book I about. Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. The book is about the development of the Corvette. Give a history of the variations that were considered. This included ideas such as a "fastback" model and a station wagon similar to the "Nomads" of the mid 50s. It also got into the history of several race drivers that piloted the "Vette" in different races. It includes drivers such as Zora Duntov,Bill Mitchel and Betty Skelton. Very interesting book!! I really loved looking through this book since a family member owned a Corvette in the early 80s.Chock-full of photos and information about the cars, this is a dream for fans of this iconic vehicle. There was so much that I had never seen, nor heard about, and I loved this from cover to cover. The writing was not dry, and not technical, it was made for casual fans and I appreciated the way that it made it easy to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in not just Corvettes, but anyone who loves cool classic cars and learning about what could have been. When I was about ten years old I went to a friend's house and his dad was washing their 1972 C3 in the driveway. I fell in love with that car and spent more time asking his dad car questions than I did playing with my friend. This book is a beautiful, thoroughly researched history of the Corvette with more than 400 pictures that cover 60+ years of Corvette concepts up to the current C8 generation. The book itself is printed on heavy paper with high-quality photos of not just Corvettes, but the many cars it influenced, cars that influenced the designers, and photos of the concept car creation process. I knew I would like this book, but expected it to be dry and technical; instead, it is an exciting read that chronicles the lives of the engineers and designers responsible for creating new sports cars. The technical information is there as well, but the book isn't just a series of spec sheets. The care that went into writing this book is clear. The author thoroughly recounts the many successes and failures of the Corvette over the years. He explores the lives of the people involved with it and the business of Chevrolet. Overall, I was highly impressed with this book and recommend it if you have any interest in Corvettes. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
