A new page-turning thriller from USA Today bestselling author David Bell.

When a girl disappears, who do you suspect?

When 17-year-old Hunter Gifford wakes in the hospital on the night of homecoming, he's shocked to learn he and his girlfriend, Chloe Summers, have been in a terrible car accident. Hunter has no memory of the crash, and his shock turns to horror when he is told Chloe's blood has been found in the car??but she has disappeared.

Back at school, his fellow students taunt him, and his former best friend starts making a true-crime documentary about the case??one that points the finger directly at Hunter. And just when things can't get any worse, Chloe's mother stands in front of the entire town at a candlelight vigil and accuses Hunter of murder.

Under mounting pressure from the police, Hunter takes matters into his own hands by questioning anyone who might know the truth and posting videos to prove his innocence. When Hunter learns he and Chloe were seen arguing loudly outside the dance, he faces a sickening possibility. Was he angry enough to kill the person he loved?

It overall felt really flat and forced. By far not a GenZ myself but this feels like a “slap some stereotype stickers” on here instead of really digging into what the youth of today is like. Not a real spoiler but spoiler alert we all as teens cringe at adults and as adults do the same at the current gen of teens. Just the circle of life is it not?
And I wasn’t a fan of the token insert some POC characters just to have some POC tokens in here for half attempts at brownie points. Really?
Superficial crap imo.
It’s not the best YA thriller type I’ve read; Lois Duncan and Caroline B Cooney do a much better job in my experience.
His writing style isn’t horrendous, just could have done better with development before actually letting this hit the shelves. ( )

Overall this book was an okay quick read. Frustrating at times with the build up to nothing but it's fine for a mystery that doesn't give it away too quickly. Some plot holes and obvious foreshadowing, but I don't regret reading it. ( )

Car accident high school senior has no memory and girl friend is gone ( )

Hunter Gifford has been in a car accident with his girlfriend Chloe Summers. Unfortunately, Hunter does not remember anything other than arriving at Homecoming, and Chloe is no where to be found. The community is sure Hunter is hiding something. What did happen to Chloe that night? Where is she? Did Hunter kill her because he was angry? Or did something else happen on that fateful night?

Fast read. ( )

Another excellent book by David Bell. His first attempt at a YA book does not disappoint the adult reader. This is a book to devour if you like mystery/thrillers. ( )
