I liked it okay but long for the days of his books like The Notebook and The Longest Ride. I liked that he had a character with a mental illness but I wish the tie between Colby and Beverly was revealed sooner in the book. I just couldn’t buy into Colby and Morgan falling in love that fast. I’m sure Sparks fans will love it but it’s not one that I see myself buying. ( ) I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, so I was so excited to receive an e-ARC of his latest book "Dreamland"! Unfortunately, this latest release fell flat for me. For 85% of the book it was two completely separate storylines - I knew they would come together eventually though (I couldn't IMAGINE how, so that was a happy surprise! One of those "How did I not SEE that?!?"). Also, I don't know why, but I just didn't feel the chemistry between Colby and Morgan. It felt rushed. Sidenote: Maybe it's because I'm not a big musical person, or tik tok person, but I just can't see a massive crowd coming out to watch a bunch of girls dance and film a tik tok video. Bleh, it made the characters seem so shallow. If I had only one sentence to review this book with, it would be, "The last 85% really redeemed the book." This is the first Nicholas Sparks book that I have read that didn't make me cry. However, it is a book that tugs on your heartstrings and hits you in the feels on several different levels. The story follows two people in their journeys in being there and protecting the people they love. I thought the characters were well written and felt like they could be real people. The situations and experiences they go through are relatable and allows the reader to picture themselves or someone they know in that situation. Like when Colby and Morgan meet one another at a hotel while they are on vacation or when Beverly is going through the motions of making sack lunches for him to take to school. I was confused about how the two story lines connected. I kept wondering how and why Colby and Morgan's story affected or had to do with Beverly and her son's story. Aside from the events happening at the same time I couldn't make a connection. My question was answered by the end of the book as events unfolded and explanations were given. A different approach to writing by Sparks. The story was well written and the characters were relatable, but it didn't grab ahold of me like his other novels have. What an utterly disappointing, totally implausible use of pages! This had potential. It did. Whether it be the young lovers story (which we know Nicholas Sparks does well) or the story of an abuse victim seeking a better life for her son, there was a tale worth reading. Even throw in the twist that But the book as a whole did not work. You cannot wait until the last 20 pages to make storylines connect. (Well, you can if the connections make as much sense as the importance of libraries in communities. So you know, obvious things). You do NOT need to put a Hallmark epilogue in....come on! Characters can come into lives for a reason, change.you for good, and yet you aren't destined to be together. Ugh. I think that's what disappointed me the most was the ending. It was as if Nicholas feels like all books need a Noah/Allie "The Notebook" twist and love story when no we don't. Give us a La La Land ending. And when your reader is fifty pages until the end asking...how do these stories fully connect? You haven't done a good job at foreshadowing. Not a recommend folks. Just....no Trigger warnings: attempted suicide nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
