"This book offers fresh insight into how Jesus' final week before the cross put into practice the ethic of peacemaking and nonviolence he had been preaching throughout his ministry. It examines how each day of the week contributes to our understanding of what it looks like to "wage peace" and provides practical skills to fight injustice and make a positive difference for peace in our daily lives. It is designed to be used as a Lenten/Holy Week study, with discussion questions at the end of each chapter, but could be used at any time throughout the year"-- "Throughout Holy Week, two competing approaches to peacemaking collide. What if we've embraced the wrong one? At the start of Holy Week, tears streamed down Jesus' face as he cried out, "If only you knew the things that make for peace." From that moment, until a week later when he triumphantly declared, "Peace be with you," Jesus spent each day confronting injustice, calling out oppressors and contending for peace. But what if-despite all our familiarity with the events of Holy Week-we still don't know how Jesus makes peace? And what if-despite clinging to the cross of Christ for our salvation-we've actually embraced a different approach to peacemaking? One that justifies killing enemies. One whose methods include nailing criminals to crosses. We desperately need to recover the radical vision of peacemaking that Jesus embodied throughout Holy Week. And we urgently need to be trained in his way of making peace. So, come. Let's journey together day-by-day through Jesus' final week and discover anew why he is called the Prince of Peace. In "Fight Like Jesus" Jason Porterfield goes over the familar story of Holy Week, day by day, in a totally new way. Contrasting what the world expected with Jesus behavior, he shows how deep pacifism coming from love is both the goal and the method of gaining peace. He ends with lessons that lead us to trying to live and fight like Jesus.

Fight Like Jesus is a short book that looks at peacemaking through the Gospel accounts of Holy Week. The author uses each day of Holy Week to reflect on a different theme of peacemaking. This book provided interesting insights into the Gospel accounts of Holy Week and how it should influence one’s thoughts about peacemaking. This book would be a great read for lent either individually or with a group. The chapters are short enough where a person can read one chapter a week for a study. The book includes discussion questions for each chapter and suggestions for a Lenten reading plan. A bibliography would have been good in case somebody wanted to go deeper. ( )

While I won't say that I agree with the base premises of the book, it's one of the most enjoyable things about reading theological book - you will be challenged and made to think about your own views. It's not mine, but it is a very well articulated point of view, for which I commend the author. It seems like it's written with a particular target group in mind, and I very much feel it will meet those needs.

Jason Porterfield 's Fight Like Jesus is a well-written book with lessons about Jesus, Holy Week, and the importance of peace. I voluntarily read this complimentary book that I will return to often on my spiritual journey. I look forward to Jason Porterfield's next book. ( )

To Mika, Luke, and Jono, Throughout life, you'll hear many claim that God hates the same people they hate. But don't be fooled. God is love. And God's love is most clearly seen in Jesus, who refused to kill, yet was willing to be killed.
