I thoroughly enjoyed this version of the frog princess. It was a cute tale about three brothers that needed to find a wife because their mother said it was time. Once the three boys found their potential wives, their mother gave the women three tasks in which they were to excel in to become the king and queen. I love this version, I would suggest it to other teachers, and I would have it in my classroom library. ( )

"The Frog Princess" was very different than other fairytales, but similar with the ending. The story started with a queen having three sons that liked too much of one thing. One son liked to eat. One son liked to change costumes and the last son liked looking a insects. The mother was fed up and made her sons compete to win a spot for king, but they have to marry. When the sons found there wives, their mother gave them several challenges, and the most successful would win. The son who liked insects, met a frog and the frog helped him win the challenges. When he told the frog he would marry her, she turned into the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He is the one who won the challenges and got to live happily ever after with his princess. This plot was different throughout but had the same fairytale happily ever after ending. The illustrations portrayed the events that were taking place in the story, but had multiple scenes on one page. ( )

This is such a sweet story. The prince trusted the frog and the little frog didn't let him down with each competition. Although he didn't want to marry a frog he didn't want to hurt the little frogs feelings and his kindness is what broke the spell. I loved how his two brothers found wives perfectly suited to them. One was a bread maker and just as round as the prince. The other prince found a thin princess who loved clothes as much as he did. ( )

This story is about three princes who must find a bride. The queen gives them a bow and arrow and they must shoot and whoever the arrow lands on will be their potential bride. The youngest son ends up with a frog. The princes and their brides to be complete the challenges. The final challenge is training a dog which the frog completes with ease. The queen is happy and tells the youngest son to marry his bride. The frog turns out to be a princess who was under a spell and since the prince agreed to marry the frog the spell is broken. I found this version fascinating because the known version of this story is one that shows the frog as being the prince. It was interesting to read it this way. ( )

Acceptance is a theme that stands out to me in this book. This book would show students to get to know someone before passing judgment. ( )
