This is a good read that is just a quick read that is super fluffy paranormal romance.

The Bleeding Heart by Lizzy Gayle didn't quite grab me like the first one did.  It just seemed like the same basic plot rehashed from a different characters viewpoint.

The Bleeding Heart is the second book in a romantic fantasy series by Lizzy Gayle. The Djinni are beings from another plane who travel to our dimension to experience human sensations. Thousands of years ago some of them were trapped by human magicians and forced into servitude. Taj is now free from his last masters. He spends his time going from lover to lover, avoiding commitment. He hasn’t had a real relationship since he lost Cal two hundred years earlier. His frivolous ways are interrupted when he learns his sister Djinni, Leela, has vanished. He enlists the help of an unknown Djinni named Brolach. He is attracted to him, but isn’t sure that he can be trusted. At the same time as he is hunting for Leela, he learns that a serial killer is hunting and killing Djinnis. Can he find and free Leela before the serial killer gets them all?

The author has created an interesting take on Djinnis. There is less time spent in world building in this book and the story launches right away into the adventure. If readers haven’t read the first book they might be a bit confused about who the Djinn are and how they came to be enslaved. Like the first book, the novel alternates between the present and events in the past. We learn how Taj met, and lost Cal. I think the author does a better job developing the main character in this book. One of the problems with both books is that the author has included quite a few unrelentingly evil characters who seem to have no other motivations than to be unrelentingly evil. I found the ending in both the present events, as well as in the past, rather abrupt. It is clear there will be more books in this series. Some mild M/M sexuality and a fair bit of violence and implied sexual abuse. ( )

I like the way they djinns are portrayed and they seem similar to genies in this book. The beginning of the book really captures your attention and has you reading on to get answers to questions and figure out more. The journey that Taj goes through in finding his sister Leela ends up surprising him and having him consider love and a relationship with another djinn after he has been closed off for so long. ( )
