Series Info/Source: This is the third book in The Daughter of the Pirate King series. I borrowed a copy of this on audiobook from my library.

Thoughts: I really enjoyed all the adventure, treasure hunting and character growth in this story. This is definitely a fantasy romance but also has plenty of amazing fight scenes and a well done and intriguing plot.

This book takes place in the same world as The Daughter of the Pirate King duology but focuses on different characters. In this case we are following Sorinda, Alosa's assassin. Alosa tasks Sorinda with taking a ship out, the Vengeance, to find another ship that has gone missing. Sorinda is forced to take on Kearan as her helmsman, she hates Kearan but finds him strangely enticing as well.

There is definitely a romance element to this but it doesn't drive the main story. The main story involves adventures into unknown seas, battles with sea monsters, confronting a cursed artifact and run-ins with an ancient danger.

I really enjoyed the fast-pace and action throughout. However, there is also a lot of focus on Sorinda and her growth as a character. We get to hear a lot of Sorinda's inner dialogue and I really enjoyed that. She has a complicated past and watching her grow into a character that can let that past help her rather than rule her was very satisfying.

I listened to this on audiobook and really enjoyed the audiobook. The narrator was pleasant to listen to and did an excellent job with character emotion and distinct voices. At times you forgot you were listening to a narrator and just fell into the characters' heads.

My Summary (5/5): Overall I really enjoyed this addition to The Daughter of the Pirate King's world. Sorinda was an amazing character and I loved watching her grow. There was a wonderful amount of adventure, danger and magic in here and it was supported by the amazing camaraderie between the characters. I hope there are more books set in this world and am eager to see what Levenseller rights next. ( )

Started but I could not finish. I just really did not care enough about this character for her to have a book just about her. I want more about Alosa. ( )

What the heck. I knew this was going to be a good book, but I didn’t know it was going to be THAT good. I missed Alosa being the main character, of course, but Sorinda did not fall short. She was also an amazing main character and I honestly love her. And the romance??? It. Was. So. Cute!!! Sorinda and Kearan were so good together, honestly.
Also, guess who else was in this book? Roslyn!!! I’m so glad we got to see more of her in this, because let’s be honest, she is AMAZING.
Honestly, this was definitely worth the wait and the 5 star rating. It really did not disappoint. ( )

Another dandy book in the series. Sorinda may be proudest of her ability to kill, but there's more to her and it's that other part that makes her a most likable character. She's tasked with captaining a ship on a long and treacherous voyage to find and rescue some of her fellow female pirates who vanished on an expedition. They were disguised and tasked with learning what the king, who their pirate queen very much mistrusts, was trying to find. Sorinda's voyage is complicated not only by a mysterious entity that steals members of her crew, but by a stowaway, the boy who likes and bedevils her simultaneously, and what they find when they reach an unknown island. All of this is blended into a fast-paced tale of intrigue, adventure and a dash of romance. ( )

You can’t be afraid of the dark when you’re the monster lurking in the shadows.

As an assassin working for the pirate queen, eighteen-year-old Sorinda is surprised when Alosa’s next task for her is not to kill a new target, but to captain a handpicked crew on a rescue mission. Unfortunately, her sailing master is twenty-year-old Kearan. He may be the best helmsman the pirate queen has, but Sorinda finds him a real pain in the arse. Sadly, there are few places on a ship to hide from an attentive man.

As the crew of the Vengeance faces dangerous waters and deadly sea creatures, they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, a being who can control the dead. Their rescue mission quickly turns into a fight to save the world, but first, Sorinda must save herself from becoming an undead queen.
