A thrilling new Medieval duology from Jody Hedlund.

Princess Elinor must choose a noble husband to rule alongside her, but the weeklong courtships have left her even more unsure of the choice she must make. When a friend from the past returns to the palace, she finds her heart torn between what it wants and her kingdom.

Inspired by the legends of Excalibur, this adventurous romance is hard to put down. I liked that both Maxim and Elinor like reason and logic, challenging each other, and bringing out the best in each other. Maxim is analytical and in a constant game of wits with his scheming father, I liked that he thinks for himself and finds ways to rebel.

A fast paced read, with admirable characters that you can cheer for all the way through, with a strong sense of right and wrong. I also liked that it sets up the second book well, leaving questions unanswered and introducing Lis and Ansgar. And who wouldn't love to have a faithful guard like Halvard? An adventurous romance set in a fantastical land loosely based on Arthurian legend, this duology promises to be one of my favorite young adult series by Jody Hedlund yet!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. ( )

It is not hard to love everything Jody Hedlund writes! Enamored is full of intrigue, danger, and romance, and it is the perfect start to a new series. This novel is targeted to young adults, so the content is clean and appropriate, but as an adult who cannot claim to be young anymore, I too found this novel to be very enjoyable. I mean, who doesn’t love a book about princesses and conspiracies to take over the throne? The characters are well developed and their romance is believable, especially with their history as good friends (friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes!). I thought the plot was creative and the descriptions were well written. I heartedly enjoyed this book and I cannot wait for book two!

“God always gives us the exact amount of courage we need to face whatever task he puts before us.”

Jody Hedlund’s YA medieval fiction never fails to draw me into a beautiful world of knights, bravery, and loyalty. The start to this new series, Knights of Brethren, is no exception. Drama and romance as Maxim and Princess Elinor reconnect after a decade of separation is balanced well with action in battle, unforeseen betrayal, and intrigue of trying to figure out how all the puzzle pieces fit together, particularly the role of Sword of Magi. Told from first person perspectives of Maxim and Elinor, this book will pull you deeply into the heart of Norvegia as they work to uphold their beloved kingdom.

I loved Maxim’s keen intelligence and heart for good, even as he battles his own demons and darkness. Elinor’s bravery and compassion are quite endearing. Surprising turns in the plot prime the series for the next book to be released soon, which promises to continue this exciting adventure.

If you enjoy YA romance, you will absolutely love this book. I received the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own. ( )

Knights, princesses, sages, a magical sword, intrigue, dragons, battles, and romance await in Enamored, a new YA Arthurian series by Jody Hedlund. As someone who’s always enjoyed the King Arthur legend, this book definitely puts an enjoyable, unique, romantic spin on the old legend. This first book in the series is a retelling of Merlin’s story.

Maxim has been away from Princess Elinor for 10 years. Sent away by the king as a young boy, he’s studied to become a powerful sage. While he loves Elinor, she’s a princess and he’s a commoner. There can be nothing but friendship between them. He returns just in time for Elinor’s 18th birthday and her selection of a husband. His father Rasmus, the Royal Sage tempts Maxim with the opportunity for his greatest wishes to come true. But, does Rasmus really have Maxim’s best interest or his own in mind?

Jody Hedlund really knows how to write romance! I loved Maxim and Elinor and their relationship growing from friends to more. Maxim is truly an amazing hero. He wrestles between doing what’s right and following his heart. I loved his willingness to sacrifice his own desires for Elinor. Elinor is all that a princess and future ruler of a kingdom should be. She’s willing to sacrifice her own happiness despite not finding anyone she wants to marry other than Maxim. In battle, she willingly risks her life to save her people. She’s intelligent and brave as well as beautiful.

I loved the premise of the story and the unique setting and time period. The dragons gave this story some “Lord of the Rings”/“How to Train Your Dragon” vibes. I enjoyed the side characters as well and look forward to Lis and Ansgar’s story.

With plenty of action, swoon worthy romance, great characters, and a touch of inspiration expertly woven into the story, I highly recommend this first book in the new series! Though it’s written for YA, it’s definitely a fantasy romance anyone would enjoy. It could be read as a stand alone, but there are plot points and situations that leave me greatly anticipating the next book in the series. Thanks to Jody Hedlund and the publisher for providing an advanced copy of the book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. Elinor and Maxim once shared a special connection as children, but it's been ten years since they've seen each other. What will their reunion be like? Will their friendship be as strong as ever? Well, let me tell you, there is a powerful chemistry between them, but there's also a major stumbling block. Elinor's uncle, the King, wants her to choose one of the twelve Knights of Brethren as her husband and Maxim isn't one of those knights. Will Elinor obey her uncle's wishes or will she heed Maxim's special call to her heart? What follows is a story that will captivate you and leave you wanting more!

Oh, how I love this book that is based on the classic tale of Excalibur. Enamored has adventure that makes your heart pound, romance that takes your breath away, and a faith message that will warm your heart and touch your soul. What's even better is that this book isn't limited to one age group: teens will certainly love it, but certainly no more than an 'ahem' year-old grandmother!

Author Jody Hedlund writes in several different genres, and she's made me a fan of her medieval/fantasy books. I highly recommend Enamored and I can't wait to see what's next in the Knights of Brethren series. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this 5-star read!

I received an advanced reader copy from the author but was in no way obligated to write a positive review. These are my own thoughts. ( )
