Really awesome world-building in this paranormal romance by Rebecca Hefner. Vampires and slayers are dependent on each other in order to survive. Slayers are the only blood source vampires can drink from and vampires used to protect them. (But who wants to be kept as a cow, right?) So now they’re at war. There are also demons stirring up trouble, and it’s all just super-complex, lots of court politics and SO SO good. Miranda, princess of the slayers (who’d much rather hang up her title and be a butt-kicker), captures a vampire princess. Sathan, king of the vampires, wants peace, but Miranda would have to convince her father. They go on a quest together, and sparks fly. These two have great, snarky chemistry that sizzled on page and watching their romance unfold was a treat! Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. These are dangerous times on Etherya's Earth… Slayer Princess Miranda, heir to the throne, has hated the Vampyres for a thousand years. Since the Awakening, she's fought to protect her people, choosing to be a warrior more than a royal. When a female Vampyre washes up on the shore of her compound's riverbank, she seizes the moment to take the offensive. Sathan, King of the Vampyres, distraught at his sister's disappearance and captivity, agrees to travel with Miranda to resect the Blade of Pestilence, also hoping to change his people's state of endless war. Although the woman hates him due to the constant raids on her compound for the Slayers' life-giving blood, he can't help but admire the stubborn and strong princess. As their journey progresses, both begin to understand that they are aligned in their hatred of Crimeous, leader of the Deamons, as well as their hope for peace between the Slayers and Vampyres. Determined to fight their growing attraction, they forge a tentative truce. But old wounds run deep and trust is scarce. Their faith in each other must remain strong or all will be lost… Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

I like the interactions between the slayer and vampire protagonists. The way they clearly star to like each other and refuse to admit it always had me smiling to myself. I found myself counting down the chapters until they would finally admit they both had feelings.
Speaking of romance, the romance scenes were hot. It was always apparent that the characters involved were genuinely interested in each other as people and it made them all the more enjoyable and realistic.
Realism as a whole in this story was well done. I noted how the story often featured events, dialogue, internal and otherwise, etc. that other stories wouldn’t have bothered with. It made the world, the characters, the setting all the more believable and relatable. I was (and still am) confused on how the modern tech and human stuff such as cell phones and instagram work.
I very much enjoyed the audiobook narration. The narrator did an excellent job of voicing and emoting characters. I never had an issue telling who was talking and it was a nice change over hearing about how a character is angry and not actually hearing it. Both the narration and the story painted a clear picture of every scene in my head, allowing me to immerse myself in the story.
I have previously listened to and reviewed the prequel. So I did go in with a basic understanding of where the world is and how slayers and vampires work.
