Micah has done the research and has all but proven his theory. He's confident that he can single-handedly solve the world's devastating water crisis - he just needs the funding. After a shocking financial setback to his own non-profit's crucial fundraising attempt, Micah takes the world's fate into his own hands. Convinced his discovery of a freshwater well deep within the Pacific Ocean is the solution to the world's depleting water sources, Micah recruits his wife, a scientist and philanthropist in her own right, two professional acquaintances and one stranger to help him achieve his goal. The unconventional team sets out to accomplish the impossible, hopefully convincing a key investor to fund their full expedition in the process. As the team gets closer to successfully fulfilling their mission, they begin to discover that some things lurking in the deep of the ocean should be left beneath the surface.… (altro)

I enjoyed reading this book. It was not hard to follow and left you hanging at the end. Does this mean there will be a book #2? ( )

Beneath the Surface by Trey Everett had a very interesting premise. It just needed more editing to really bring the story together. The first part was agonizingly slow spending a lot of time in the two main character's heads.

Spoilers ahead

The first problem I had with this tale was the whole big boat bit. I'm sorry, but even though the Dean of a College makes a decent wage, unless he comes from some money, he's not going to be able to afford a large boat. He definitely isn't going to have the funds to add a decompression chamber to the boat. It would be more likely, for there to be a consortium of colleges that go together to operate a boat. That's how it was when I took Marine Biology many years ago. Where was the crew of the boat? I assume since the Dean is in California, his boat would be there as well. So how did it get to Alaska? And why didn't Micah and Sarah just sail with the boat to Alaska?

Next problem - They go on and on about all the software development and so forth, but he never gets into describing the equipment. I'm no expert diver, but I do have a Scuba certification. Were they in wet suits or dry suits? I assume they are using a full face mask instead of the standard mouthpiece. Why did Thomas need Jax's help? Even if the electronics failed, it wouldn't affect the actual operations of the dive equipment. Why did Micah remain behind when Jax and Thomas surfaced? One of the first things you learn in Scuba diving is to not go alone..... ( )

A dive into the deep waters off the coast of Alaska in search of - yes: freshwater - ends in a disaster.

Between this cover: A witty plot, 'pressurized' storyline, fast pace. Unable to reemerge slower, it took me just a weekend to share this expedition to the ground of the Pacific Ocean.

Four stars for a well-done horror story! ( )
