When Sloane takes a job at the infamous whitewater-rafting camp Widow Falls, she quickly learns that the camp has a reputation for more than just summer fun. People go missing at Widow Falls. The guide she's replacing was just one of many. As Sloane settles into her new home - a one-room apartment she'll be sharing with the five other guides - she can't help asking questions and digging into the disappearances she's heard about. Her new roommates tell her stories of dark legends and dangerous folklore surrounding the secluded camp but assure her there's nothing to worry about. It's all just superstition. When Sloane stumbles upon a clue and a secret message hidden beneath the floorboards of their loft, she begins to realize there may be more to the myths than she's been told. The message gets her attention: Don't trust anyone at Widow Falls. As she follows clues to better understand the missing guide she replaced, Sloane can't help noticing the similarities between the two of them. Whatever's happening at Widow Falls, it's clear someone doesn't want her digging into it. As the seams of her reality are torn apart, making her question everything, Sloane has to uncover the truth about the camp - and its occupants - before someone else goes missing.… (altro)

Another great surprising ending from KMod! This was a perfect read during the summer and with wilderness woods and rapids, there is secrets being buried deep in Widow Falls. Once you go in, you don’t come out. ( )

I'm still reeling from the ending of this book! Every time I thought maybe I had this one figured out Ms Modglin threw in another twist, and I never saw that ending coming. This story is about Sloane, whose parents died several years ago. Having just graduated from college she decides to take a job with a rafting company at Widow Falls before embarking on her life's journey. Free rent, no utilities, working outdoors all day as a rafting guide. Sounds perfect! Until she learns she is replacing a girl who disappeared. They say she left voluntarily but did she really? Are all the rumors about Widow Falls that she is just now hearing true? Kiersten Modglin is the master of the twisted psychological thriller who has rapidly become my favorite author. Her plots are well developed and detailed and her characters are believable. Her descriptions of place add to the suspense. She also has this habit of ending each chapter with a sense of impending doom that will keep you reading late into the night. Thanks to the author for giving me a copy of this book review. Please keep them coming. I am totally addicted to your books! ( )

"I walked straight into the horror that was about to unfold without a single, solitary, hesitation. I had no idea what was coming."

So, it seems like every time this author goes on vacation, she is inspired to write a twisted thriller based on her destination. Anywhere I go on vacation now, I will spend an inordinate time looking over my shoulder, expecting nefarious things to befall me.

So, we have socially anxious Sloane, who has taken a job at Widow Falls as a white-water rafting guide - something totally out of her element but she's pushing herself out of her comfort zone. There she meets her fellow guides- Gabe, Claudia, Rob, Kayla and Josh.

When Sloane learns of the girl she replaced, Landry, no one will talk about her. As she learns more about Landry, she starts to question who is friend and who has more sinister plans for her. What is really going on at Widow Falls? Why do people disappear, never to be heard from again? Is she next?

In true Modglin fashion, the reader is kept guessing as to who can be trusted and who can't, what's really going on, and what is just in the mind of the main character. And, as usual, the ending will leave your jaw on the floor! Excellent read!! ( )
