I've decided to part with my old Fear Street books, starting with this one because I remember a bit about it. What I remember about this one specifically is that I didn't like it. The main character was outright nasty, and yet we have to sympathize with her? This was much more of a thriller than a ghost story, which is what I wanted out of the series. After re-reading this, my opinion hasn't changed. I'd add that there is a time problem with this one: Silent Night - Christmas, senior year of high school Silent Night 2 - Christmas one year later Silent Night 3 - Christmas first year of college It doesn't mention her taking the year off or anything, so I don't know what the deal is. As in all three books, I just wished Reva would actually die because she stayed an awful character. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Let's take a moment to appreciate that this is the THIRTIETH Fear Street book Stine wrote. Coming out in December of 1993 and including the 14 Goosebumps books that had already been written that makes 44 books in 55 months. I'm not counting his other Point Horror novels like the 'Babysitter' series and humor books and writing scripts for 'Eureka's Castle'....and that schedule was only going to get tighter as Stine ramped up his empire. The man was a machine and even if it does turn out he was hiring more ghost writers than he's admitted to, he was still overseeing a LOT of production.
Wow. I've had a hard enough time getting all of the Fear Street books in publication order, I don't have time to weave in all of his other credits.
Does this increased production have a negative impact on the quality of the books he produces? Ha! Such a question. If this reading project has taught me anything it's that Stine's writing is always a wild card. You never know what going to smack you from the page next.
'Silent Night 2' picks up a year after Reva swore to become a better person. She is nominally friendlier to her cousin and let her get a job at Dalby's, but otherwise is a terrible employee and unafraid to set her sights on poor Pam's new boyfriend. Is it any wonder that her actions are going to continue to have consequences?
Reva's the worst, but I still love reading her narrations. The book's a treat and I'm so glad I'll get to read a third when I get to December 1996. Another reviewer points out that this book falls into an odd place on the timeline. Reva was in her senior year in 'Silent Night' and apparently in 'Silent Night 3' she's a freshman in college. Either she was held back or girl took a gap year. Oh well, she can join Gary Brandt and the other Super Super Super seniors of Shadyside High.
