Another hit for Herge, and a clear indicator that he was entering a golden age of storytelling. There's nothing surprising here - it would be many years before Herge decided to break his own format - but again the story is incredibly well done. Professor Cuthbert Calculus is a wonderful addition to the cast: he's very funny and yet also a competent addition to the team. Like Haddock, he appears at first glance to be simply a plot functionary, but was immediately popular and would prove his worth in many stories following this one. (Sure, these days the "deaf man mishears thing" trope is overused, but it remains amusing in the "Tintin" albums)

Hergé published this story as a serial in "Le Soir" over the course of 1943: a successful sequel to his own early favourite, "The Secret of the Unicorn". Remaining apolitical, this album is also the first not to feature a typical villain of any kind. Instead, the emphasis is squarely on the adventure. Perhaps because of this, these two stories would be the first translated into English a decade later, and remain some of Tintin's most popular journeys.

It's fair to say that this album doesn't quite reach the heights of "The Secret of the Unicorn". Without the integrated plotlines of that story, and without the commanding presence of the historical tale, this becomes a more traditional adventure. What elevates it is: a) the lack of a villain of any kind, making this an exercise in character and ambience alone; b) the feeling of scientific discovery which will typify the next few albums; c) the fabulous interplay between the lead characters; and d) the lush atmosphere - from bustling Belgium and the waves of the Atlantic, to a Caribbean island, an underwater grotto, and finally the bowels of Marlinspike Hall.

It's fair to say that Herge had mastered his art here. In years to come, he would tire of the formula and begin subverting it, but for now he was riding a wave that would yield several classic works.

Red Rackham’s Treasure is at first glance a proto-typical treasure-hunting adventure story, but in the hands of Hergé’s art, the visual gags, and subtle touches that occur in the panels behind the action, an observant reader is rewarded with something that Is still vibrant and refreshing.

Soft marks on the story for being a sequel, but that only means you get to read more Tintin! ( )

El tesoro de Rackham el Rojo (en francés, Le Trésor de Rackham le Rouge) es una historieta publicado en 1943, perteneciente a la serie Las aventuras de Tintín del autor belga Hergé. Es la segunda parte, y última, de una serie iniciada con El secreto del Unicornio.

Tintín y el capitán Haddock preparan el viaje al bordo del Sirius en busca del tesoro de Rackham el Rojo. Antes de zarpar conocen al profesor Silvestre Tornasol, que les muestra un submarino que supuestamente les ayudaría en su viaje. La sordera de Tornasol le impide comprender, hasta que Haddock se lo escribe, que su invento no es bien recibido.

El barco zarpa, con la compañía de los policías Hernández y Fernández, ya que uno de los hermanos Pájaro (enemigos de Tíntin en el primer álbum de esta serie) se ha escapado y ha merodeado cerca del barco antes de que saliera del puerto. Más adelante se descubrirá a un polizón en el barco, el profesor Tornasol, que subió en el barco a escondidas junto a su invento.

El viaje prosigue y tras algunas equivocaciones llegan a la isla donde se hundió el Unicornio y donde supuestamente estaría el tesoro. El profesor Tornasol descubre una cruz en la isla, sin embargo, tras cavar no encuentran ningún tesoro. Tampoco lo encuentran bajo el agua, así que desisten y vuelven desilusionados a casa.

Cuando Tintín y Haddock ya daban todo por perdido, el profesor Tornasol forma un manuscrito con papeles encontrados en un cofre del Unicornio, que identifican a Francisco de Hadoque, antepasado del capitán Haddock, como el propietario del Castillo del Molino, que Tornasol compra para el capitán en agradecimiento a su ayuda con su submarino. Cuando se dirigen allí, se dedican a explorar el castillo, hasta que llegan al sótano en el que Tintín había permanecido secuestrado durante El secreto del Unicornio. En él, se encuentran una estatua de San Juan Evangelista, lo cual indica a Tintín dónde se encuentra realmente el tesoro: éste se encontraba, según los pergaminos que proporcionaron a los protagonistas las pistas sobre la situación del Unicornio, "bajo la cruz del Águila", y Tintín hace la conexión entre esta pista y el hecho de que San Juan es llamado "el águila de Patmos". Cuando quitan un cuadro que oculta parte de la estatua, se encuentran un globo en el que está marcada la isla a la que fueron antes: ésta resulta ser la clave de un resorte que abre el globo y revela su contenido, el tesoro de Rackham el Rojo.

I "Enhjørningens hemmelighed" fandt journalisten Tintin og søulken Kaptajn Haddock et skattekort. Nu er de på vej med en trawler Sirius for at finde skatten og det foregår desværre i fuld offentlighed, fordi en anden journalist har fået fat i nyheden. En meget døv herre, Tryphon Tournesol, henvender sig med sin opfindelse, en miniubåd og får den faktisk med ombord ved at bytte delene af den ud med Haddocks lager af whisky. Dupond og Dupont er også med, for de har fået ordre til at beskytte Haddock og Tintin.
Rejsen går let, specielt da de får korrigeret kursen for en anden nul-meridian (den gennem Paris) end den, vi bruger nutildags. På øen finder de en stor figur af den gamle Kaptajn Haddock og nogle papegøjer, der kan bande lige så slemt som ham. Vel ude i rum sø finder de Enhjørningen som vrag. Udover nogle flasker rom og lidt tingeltangel finder de en kiste med gamle pergamenter, som Tournesol kan tyde med lidt besvær. De udpeger slottet Møllenborg. Kaptajn Haddock og Tournesol køber slottet for Tournesols honorar for opfindelsen af miniubåden.
Nede i kælderen finder de den skjulte skat og alt ender i fryd og gammen.

Ganske underholdende røverhistorie med Haddock og Tournesol som komisk makkerpar. ( )
