Huh? Felt like I was just getting started on a novel with an excellent plot. But no, its a story, and a short one at that. I've read great stories. This is not one of them. This is the beginning of a novel.

Feel cheated.

Yes I knew it was a short story when I borrowed it but it needs to be re-written as a novel.

Cleaning The Gold (2019) (Reacher 23.6) (Will Trent #8.5) by Lee Child & Karin Slaughter. If you are a fan of both of these long standing thriller writers, or just one of them, this is going to be a great read for you. While there are more than 20 Reacher novels out but only 10 Will Trent books, both are strong, singular and hard driven protagonists in their own manner. Here Trent is undercover at the gold depository at Fort Knox in search of a killer. Reacher has his own agenda as usual and has managed to also get a job there. It doesn’t help any that the suspected killer Trent is looking for is Reacher.
Somehow the two manage to work together on a bigger case involving corruption among the higher echelon military personnel running the depository.
Quick but not easy, Cleaning The Gold is a great collaboration between two very strong writers. While neither character dominates the story, the amalgam of styles plays nicely together. This is a short but really good addition to both catalogs. ( )

Fun little novella with Jack Reacher and Will Trent. I had never read any Karin Slaughter before this, so don't know how the Trent chapters compare, but the Reacher chapters are what any Reacher fan would expect. It also fills in a little more of the Reachers' back story. ( )

Karin Slaughter and Lee Child got together to write a short story about Will Trent and Jack Reacher, and the result is CLEANING THE GOLD. If you're looking for a quick read, this could be it. I would warn, though, you should already be familiar with Will Trent and Jack Reacher to appreciate this story.

The two of them are both working undercover at Fort Knox, although, really, Reacher is only sort of undercover. Neither of them knows the other is undercover.

Reacher is there to find evidence to convict a known bad guy in the army who works there. Trent is there to get a DNA sample to catch Reacher. They think

I wondered how they could possibly work together, and I enjoyed it. But I think that is only because I understood the characters to begin with. They are so totally different they couldn't work together for long, so only a short story would work. ( )
