This is the story of the notorious necrophile Ed Gein, who was the inspiration for the killers in the movies Psycho, Silence of the Lambs and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as told through the award-winning artwork of Eric Powell and the painstaking research and thoughtful dramatization of true crime author Harold Schechter. The combination of the haunting artwork and the incredible research that went into this book make for a fascinating, if not horrifying, read. I knew the basic story of Ed Gein, but not all of the details, and they are all in here - and they are terrifying! The inventory listed on pages 116 and 117 are horrifyingly disgusting. It was a little hard to read all of this, but it was really interesting too. Though be warned - this is not a book for the feint hearted, not even in its 'comic book' format! A man and his madness... I love reading true crime in graphic novel form, even when it is as grisly and disturbing as this one is. I grew up hearing about Eddie Gein and the novel and film Psycho which were inspired by these horrifying events. I never did read the book but consider the film a true masterpiece. Meticulously researched and illustrated, the story follows Gein growing up in the domineering shadow of a tyrannical mother, leading him to commit unspeakable atrocities after her death. If you have the stomach for it, I highly recommend it. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
One of the greats in the field of true-crime literature, Harold Schechter (Deviant, The Serial Killer Files, Hell's Princess), teams with five-time Eisner Award-winning graphic novelist Eric Powell (The Goon, Big Man Plans, Hillbilly) to bring you the tale of one of the most notoriously deranged murderers in American history, Ed Gein. This graphic novel is an in-depth exploration of the Gein family and what led to the creation of the necrophile who haunted the dreams of 1950s America and inspired such films as Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. Painstakingly researched and illustrated, Schechter and Powell's true-crime graphic novel takes the Gein story out of the realms of exploitation and gives the reader a fact-based dramatization of these tragic, psychotic, and heartbreaking events. Because, in this case, the truth needs no embellishment to be horrifying. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
