Mitchell Sorrow wallows in a major funk after his decades-long crush leaves town for good. Intent on powering through, he throws himself into his work as an EMT at Smithville Regional Hospital. He'll steer clear of women, especially those who love their careers more than people. Jackie Myers, chief development officer at a hospital association, is determined to climb the corporate ladder. The best way to do that is to show upper management she's capable of making tough decisions, such as closing a fledgling rural hospital. When she's assigned to visit Smithville under the guise of writing an article about small-town life, she'll easily assess how dire the hospital situation really is.After suffering an allergic reaction at the fall festival, Jackie blabs the true reason for her visit. Desperate to save the hospital, Mitch agrees to a deal. In exchange for keeping her secret, he gets one week to convince her the hospital is essential. But the more time they spend together, the more complicated things become. Mitch begins to open his heart, and Jackie's decision becomes nearly impossible. He may never forgive her, and she'll lose the only guy who can take her breath away - no Epi pen required.… (altro)

If you are looking for a feel-good, Hallmark movie in a book, this one fits the bill. Big city girl finding love in a small town sums up the plot. The cadence and details are well done and you will walk away from this book satisfied. There is a nice collection of characters with enough sass to keep them from being overly sweet.

I absolutely loved Mitch and Jackie's story. They may have started off at odds, but it was clear they were truly meant for each other. The story was engaging, with just enough tension to ensure it never got boring. Neither Jackie nor Mitch is necessarily expecting to find love - for entirely different reasons, but sometimes fate throws you a curveball. I loved how the small-town setting never turns cliché (which in my opinion is difficult to pull off). The weather might be turning cool, but this is a wonderful romance that will warm your heart. ( )

I loved this novel! It is a light contemporary romance set in the small town of Smithville, Georgia. I read it as a stand-alone, but it is the 3rd book in a trilogy about the lives of 3 brothers, with each brother's life being the main focus of each story.

There are 3 key contemporary issues that are told in compelling reality, particularly work-life balance and how healthcare costs are causing hospital networks to consolidate, edging out small town hospitals.
• The 1st is the portrayal of EMT Mitchell (Mitch) Sorrow's trying to regroup after a broken romance that had lingered for 10 years until the woman he thought he'd spend the rest of his life with left town. In fact, Dr. Melanie (Mel) Ballard left town without a word to anyone accepting a position with Doctors Without Borders in Africa. Mitch is under the impression he'll be the single brother/uncle forever.
• The 2nd is the portrayal of Jackie Myers, a young career woman on a new assignment that may lead to her coveted promotion to vice president of the Southeastern Hospital Association (SHA). However, after sparks begin to fly between Mitch and Jackie, Jackie needs to decide what's more important in her life - a career or personal life. She highly doubts both are ever possible for a woman.
• The 3rd portrays the competition between Jackie and her coworker Brett for the same promotion. It also highlights that since men and women spend so much time at work, intimacy can be misconstrued, especially when the man loves to tease her and the woman has to explain the casual interactions when she's in a new relationship.

This is a trilogy that could easily be adapted as Hallmark movies. But first, enjoy the story, as there's chemistry in almost every chapter. ( )

This is the third in a series focused on Smithville, a small town in Georgia. The central characters introduced in the previous novels (In a Jam and In a Pickle) make cameo appearances here. The focal characters have changed, but in broad outline this is the same story, thrice told.

Jackie is a lawyer employed by a hospital association. The Smithville hospital profit margin is insufficient and her CEO sends Jackie to determine whether it should be closed. Her CEO will promote her to vice president if he is satisfied with her report. Mitch, an EMT at the hospital, is depressed. The woman he has been chasing since high school left for a job with Doctors Without Borders. Jackie and Mitch meet almost immediately, and hormones flow.

The setup introduces characters we can root for and an engaging premise. Unfortunately, the middle two-thirds of the book is a disappointment. The characters do nothing interesting. Readers could skip that section without missing anything. Then, along comes the superficial catastrophe. The problem is so superficial Jackie and Mitch could solve it in ten minutes if they would just sit down and talk to each other. Finally, we arrived at the contrived happy ending.

This book was a disappointment. ( )
