Are you able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of an argument? Can you determine what additional information might make an argument easier to evaluate? Can you create alternative, plausible explanations for the claims in an argument? Because these skills are important for a successful career in management, the GMAT requires each test taker to complete the Analytical Writing Assessment, a timed task that reveals the writers analytical abilities and his or her facility in crafting a coherent evaluation of an argument. The essays and prewriting activities in this book are intended to serve as models for the test taker to use when responding to practice arguments. Use them as is or to inspire yourself to create your own process. Either way, practising for the AWA will ensure the best score possible on the test. This book contains fifty sample Analyze an Argument essays along with the rubrics, prompts and tips to use when writing your own essays. This book taught me how to recognize faulty logic and strengthen my analytical reasoning and writing skills. Over 60 example arguments are given and then dissected showing the strengths and weaknesses of the given argument and ways to improve them. Best of all, a sample essay response is included for each argument topic. The detailed instructions and strategies at the beginning of the ebook helped me not feel lost througout. Do keep in mind however that this is not just a quick read. If you really want to improve your analytical writing skills, you must do the practice exercises and put in the time to think deep. I found this book quite helpful even though I don't plan to ever take the GMAT.

GMAT Analytical Writing: Solutions ot the Real Argument Topics from Vibrant Publishers takes an interesting approach to preparing students for the GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment. First it introduces the section, provides general strategies, and explains the scoring guide. Following that it provides 60 argument tasks for students to work on.

Each Argument task starts with the topic and the directions, allowing for students to try each task on their own. Following that comes a section with strategic tips for how to approach it which could be useful for students trying to do a retrospective or for students new to the AWA who aren't sure how to go about writing it. Then comes a list of recommendations and a breakdown of the claims or assumptions in the task. This provides a good list for students to go over when they're checking their own brainstorming. Finally, there's a sample essay provided that answers the prompt at the 6 level.

I feel like this is a great resource for students who want to improve on the AWA but don't know how or would benefit from seeing someone else's notes and having a sample essay to compare theirs to.
