Without another book to compare with, I can't say for sure, but my impression is that my problem is rooted in the differences in grammar and usage between Indian and American English. In particular the way concepts of greater than and less than are expressed. Thus the sentence, "In each column or group, elements are more reactive from bottom to top." to me can mean that the top numbers are more reactive or that the bottom numbers are more reactive. This is a common problem which is why surveys usually specifically says which ranking is highest and which lowest. This book says that it is is sold only in India and, as such, most readers are likely to be Indians. They will probably understand what is meant and answer the questions correctly. However we cannot be certain that when it comes to take the real GRE they will not be confused by the American English structures for similar questions. It might be worthwhile to invest in a study guide that is one written in the language of the test.
