Mike McKenzie goes to Europe after the death of his parents and meets a Czech man with whom he has a brief, but fateful, encounter. A year later, he receives a puzzling phone call to help this friend who is now embroiled with Czech criminals, having unwittingly borrowed money from the mob. Despite reservations, he goes to Paris to help his friend, and his resolve to help deepens. He finds he must actually protect him, and later himself, as they race around Paris in an increasing confrontation with the mob. As he gets pulled into the drama and peril of his ex's predicament, he falls in love. Mike and new friend Christophe work with Lt. René Jacques of the Paris police in an effort to apprehend the criminals.The reader is taken on a fast-paced adventure through the streets and across the arrondissements of Paris as Mike and some new friends try to outwit the Czechs with the help of the Police Nationale. There is some romance among the chases and dangerous exploits arising from mixing with the mob. The book is filled with seedy bars, tourist hotels, stashed guns, shady deals, and narrow escapes.
