It was a pleasure to read these four stories of Sir Edward Grey, a nineteenth century supernatural detective in the service of Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The tales, written by Mike Mignola, were well-constructed and each one self-contained but building on the previous. Sir Edward is unflappable in the face of occult or supernatural danger, which arrives in various forms. The art was good, though with different artists for some of the stories. My only disappointment was that Mignola didn't *also* do the art, but it is a minor quibble.

I haven't read Hellboy, but I certainly enjoyed this spinoff from that universe. ( )
