In this examination of the possible threat posed by the marriage of an age-old weapon, poison gas, with a nuclear-age delivery system, the ballistic missile, the authors assess the alleged proliferation of chemical weapons and missile technology worldwide, with particular emphasis on the Asia/Pacific region. They also describe the ongoing efforts to curb chemical and missile proliferation and to find lasting solutions to the problem. Detailed attention is given to the new chemical weapons convention, designed to permanently ban chemical weapons globally, and to the missile technology control regime. Key documents issued at the time of the regime's unveiling in 1987 are included in their entirety.
