A story of forgiveness and the importance of family. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were strong and the setting of the book is magnificent! I love Prince Edward Island.
Meg's father decides to sell his lobster fishing business because his wife has a mysterious illness. When Meg finds out that Oliver, her high school nemesis wants it she decides that she will try to run the business herself. Along the way they learn that they must work together and try to forget the past and look toward the future. "Sometimes when the pain is too loud, all we can hear is the person crying with us. And that sounds a lot like love." ( )

What a delightful read by Liz Johnson. It's like a Canadian Christian Hallmark, a bit of enemies-to-lovers, where family and healing are as important as love and success. I fell in love with the characters immediately and couldn't wait for them to figure it out while also appreciating the tension and slight air of mystery and danger that didn't really get resolved the way you initially expect.
I received a free copy from Early Reviewers but either lost it in the mail or while moving so borrowed from my public library, and am SO SO GLAD I did! I am reading the whole trilogy now, and considering getting the earlier PEI trilogy by this author too! ( )

Meg had shown no interest in her family business until someone else expressed their own desire to own Whitaker Fishing. Someone named Oliver Ross, her teenage arch-nemesis! How could she allow him to have it?

Author Liz Johnson shares an intriguing story filled with the powerful emotions that many of us have faced. Grief, pain, and the reluctance to set aside old animosities are present but Johnson's strong message of faith, hope, and forgiveness helps buffer their impact. Honorable but fallible characters, the dynamic chemistry between Meg and Oliver, and a beautiful setting make this a story to read and savor! This is a great first book in the Prince Edward Island Shores series and I look forward to returning to Prince Edward Island!

I received this book from Revell and LibraryThing. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts. ( )

Lobster fishing seems an odd setting for a romance--but Liz Johnson makes it work.

Oliver Ross and Meg Whitaker have a history. Oliver still feels guilty that his actions ruined Meg's chances at her future plans. Meg hasn't really forgiven him all these years later even though her life seems to have turned out all right. The town also doesn't seem to want to forgive Oliver for the actions of his father or his own previous actions as a teen.

When Meg's father decides to sell the family business to Oliver, it upsets Meg and other lobster fishing outfits in Victoria. Meg combats it by claiming she wants the business despite never having worked a day at it in her life so far.

Meg's father's solution is to make Oliver and Meg work together for the season and he will make a decision at the end of the season as to whether he will honor his agreement with Oliver or pass the business on to Meg.

The other businesses let their displeasure be known to Meg and Oliver (who are trying to take the weight of the business off Meg's father's shoulders so he can be free to care for his ailing wife without outside worries).

Forgiveness is a big theme in the book. So is "make memories while you can". ( )

Nice set up for this new series and I enjoyed the visual the author creates of the PEI Shores. Story line was good and will continue with the next in the series right away! ( )
