With a little help from the Cat in the Hat, Sally and Dick observe a small miracle in their own backyard—the metamorphosis of an egg into a caterpillar into a chrysalis into a bright new butterfly! Along the way, beginning readers will find out how butterflies see thousands of images at once, drink nectar from flowers, avoid predators, and can be identified by size, shape, and color. Readers will also follow the amazing migration of millions of monarchs. Summary: This is a great children's book that talks about butterflies. It goes over the life of a butterfly and how they are formed. It shows them from an egg to a caterpillar, then coming out as a beautiful butterfly. It also talks about how they see and eat things such as flower pollen. And it talks about their wings and the colors of butterflies. Personal Reaction: I think it's a great children's book. It explains the development of butterflies very well. I also love that it is a rhyming book. It is interesting and has really great pictures also. Classroom Extension: 1. Take the students outside on a nice day so we can look for butterflies. 2. Get caterpillars and make a habitat for them in a small aquarium. It would be really neat for the students to check on them everyday and even get to see the butterfly form. Then we could take them outside and set them free. My, Oh My- A Butterfly! a great informational text . This book is age appropriate for k- 1st grade. The illustrations are colorful, cartoon like and the font is standard. This book has a very pleasing rhyme scheme throughout. The use of the cat in the hat, a familiar character, allows the young reader to relax with the composition. The text is informative and offers a delightful glossary for the avid student. After reading, one is able to recognize and identify local butterflies. This could be used in the classroom when introducing insects from the world of science. The children could also create their own butterflies. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
