A follow-up to Happily Ever Afters, with the focus very much shifted from Tessa in book one to Lenore here, this could easily be read as a standalone. While I liked that this took place on a European cruise giving it a slightly different flavor than the usual YA contemporary setting, it rarely felt as rich in sensory details as I’d hoped. I appreciated Lenore’s romance, after her previous boyfriends she clearly deserved someone who treated her well, I liked that they shared some sweet scenes but I could have done without the drama in their relationship. Lenore already had plenty going on, I didn’t necessarily feel like her love life needed drama as well especially not when that drama didn’t have much substance behind it. I would have traded the dramatic romance scenes (keep the sweet ones) in favor of showing more of Lenore’s photography and other creative pursuits, and her trying to figure out what her future might look like, that along with the family dynamics, the intense pressure these siblings feel from their parents, those for me, were the most compelling elements of the story and I would have welcomed even more of them. Lastly, I wanted to mention by far my favorite character in this book, Lenore’s sister, Etta, I thoroughly enjoyed this little genius and her struggle to enjoy “kid” stuff, give this girl her own middle-grade novel and I’d read it in a heartbeat. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML: From the author of Happily Ever Afters comes another irresistible YA romantic comedy full of self-discovery and Black love??and a dreamy European cruise. Perfect for fans of Nicola Yoon and Jenny Han, with crossover appeal for readers of Jasmine Guillory and Talia Hibbert romances. Lenore Bennett has always been a force. A star artist and style icon at her high school, she's a master in the subtle art of not giving a . . . well, you know what. But now that graduation is here, she's a little less sure. She's heading to NYU in the fall with a scarlet U (for "undeclared") written across her chest. Her parents always remind her that Black kids don't have the luxury of figuring it out as they go??they have to be 110 percent prepared. But it's a lot of pressure to be her ancestors' wildest dreams when Lenore's not even sure what her dreams are yet. When her family embarks on a post-graduation Mediterranean cruise, her friend Tessa is sure Lenore's in for a whirlwind romance. But Lenore knows that doesn't happen to girls like her. Then she meets Alex Lee. After their parents bond over the Cupid Shuffle, she ends up stuck with him for the remainder of the cruise. He's a hopeless romantic and a golden boy with a ten-year plan. In short, he's irritating as hell. But as they get to know each other during the picturesque stops across Europe, Alex may be able to help Lenore find something else she's been looking for, even if she doesn't want to admit it to herself: love Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

But I really love this normalization of gentle boys, therapy, and not having it all together before college. I, like so many others, didn’t know what I wanted to major in college. And the system is set up to drain you of all your money and time if you don’t already have an idea. So, you got people sticking it out in a major that makes them unhappy or afraid to try something else in case it’s worse. Stop punishing people for not having their whole life planned out. Mini rant over. ( )
