I even bought tickets to see Vanessa do a live show in Tacoma. So I was excited to read this and it did not disappoint. ( ) This was not what I expected. I expected a fluff book that I could quickly read through and pass on. What I got was something very deep and spiritual. This tells how to take any book and read it as a sacred text. As I read the chapters sentences spoke to me. As first I read shallowly then I started to read deeper into the words, and I started to understand what she was saying. I started thinking what her words reminded me of, and I started to underline and comment and question what she wrote. I could feel the pull of her words. I could feel the pull of wanting to do this. I started to think of others who would be interested in this book and reading sacredly. I started thinking of what books I would want to do this with. I started thinking how I could do this. I am captured by this book. I want to find the essay of Carthusian monk, Giugo II and read it so I know what he said about reading possibly leading to prayer. I know that some chapters in this book caused me to put it down and think and reflect on what she was saying. I have not been taken like this by a book in a long time. Readers will find this interesting. I loved this blend of memoir and how the author utilized reading Jane Eyre as a way to bring the sacred into her life. I’ve listened to her podcasts but not every one, so I enjoyed hearing more about her life and how having all four of her grandparents as Holocaust survivors affected how she relates to the world. I haven’t read Jane Eyre in years, and this makes me want to do a reread as well as figure out what may be sacred texts of my own. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
