Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. The evil deposed queen sends the biblical equivalent of plagues to Witches Borough. The latest plague is drought and a dried-up river. Mup talks to the earth, teaches magic to young children, and faces the queen to help end the dry spell. The action is a little slow in the beginning. I understand it is fantasy, but temporary dead is a bit much. The plot is ok, but not amazing. I feel like the audience for this witchcraft fantasy will be small, but passionate. I was not a big fan, myself. Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. Although Mum' grandmother, the evil queen has been banished and exiled, there is a fretful optimism that her absence is forever. Now that the relentless snow has stopped, a drought has taken its place and the town is fearful she is watching and biding her time.Mum is trying hard to convince the people that kindness and cooperation is the key to their success. She's opened a school for ALL children...yet some are reluctant to believe. When Crow's mother, Magda shows up, she expects Mup to keep her promise to help. But, helping her find and reunite with the evil queen is not on the top of her list. Yet, together will all her friends, Crow, Grey Girl, Naomi, and Dr. Emberly, Mup finds her strength, Crow finds his voice, and Naomi uses her talents like never before. The Promise Witch is a fitting conclusion to the Wild Magic trilogy with its subtle nod to important issues and worthwhile endeavors. This is a great conclusion to the trilogy. I had read the first novel as an Early Reviewer book and enjoyed it. I then won this book as an Early Reviewer. To ensure I enjoyed the book properly I purchased and read the second book in the trilogy. This is a very easy read. The book flows nicely and keeps the suspense going at an even pace. Written for middle school-age children, it is still enjoyable for all ages. This book could be read as a stand-alone novel. The Promise Witch (The Wild Magic Trilogy, Book Three) by Celine KiernanThe wicked Queen put a curse of drought on the land. Young Witch Mup and her friend Crow want to help . It is not long that Crow finds out his Mother, Magda has an evil plan. Together Mup and Crow try to stop Magda and the Queen, who happens to be Mup's Grandmother. Mup and Crow will do what ever it takes to stop their family from destroying the land. A fantastic magical story of friendship, family, love and adventure. The characters are well developed and likable. With engaging dialog and detailed prose I was pulled into the story, hooked from the first page until the end. Overall I found The Promise Witch enjoyable and highly recommend to young adult as well as adult readers. *Great as a stand alone, but suggest the first two in the series as well. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

"Third in a darkly enchanting trilogy after Begone the Raggedy Witches and The Little Grey Girl, The Promise Witch opens in a time of heat and thirst. The deposed old tyrant of a queen sent a cursed winter to bury Witches Borough in snow. Months later, the clouds have vanished, but an equally cursed drought has settled over the castle and its river, now bone-dry. Witches Borough is dying, and though Mup is the pathfinder, the stitcher of worlds, is she strong enough to mend a scorched landscape and bring the water home? Enter a raggedy witch trailing a storm of ashes: Magda, Crow's mother. She wants Mup to fulfill a promise. She wants Mup to help her. And woe betide any who stand in her way. Irish storyteller Celine Kiernan's breathtaking tale of family, loyalty, and risk caps a timeless trilogy brimming with drama and danger--and heartbreaking resonance to the struggles of today."-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
