Apple Pie Pair is the fourth book in the ‘Bake Sale Bachelor’ series. It stars Tony, an Alpha, owner of an apple orchard and father of two boys, and Jerry, an omega, writer for a travel magazine. This is told in first person from both Tony and Jerry’s povs.



The blurb does a good job of explaining the plot so I won’t rehash it. This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author. I’m hesitant about reading unknown authors unless they receive good reviews from friends, but I took a chance. I wanted a fast, easy read and mpreg stories usually are. I wanted to see how the author handled writing mpreg since she was new to me. The books I’ve read by other authors tend to be the same. Omegas that turn needy and weak, and become dependent on the Alpha once they mate and have babies. Those mpreg books also gave too much birth detail, including lactations, that were too similar to females. Very typical of M/F fic, except using male omegas instead of females. Thankfully, this author didn’t create Jerry that way. Jerry is very independent, has a successful career, and travels the world. Of course, this is where the conflict comes in, along with a surprise pregnancy. How Jerry and Tony handle that is the premise of this story. I liked that the author didn’t dwell on the pregnancy, it just showed up in the epilogue. Alphas and omegas in this story refer to omegas being child bearers. There’s no knotting kink, at least in this book.

I liked both characters. Tony is an extremely caring, calm, and confident Alpha. He doesn’t demand Jerry remain at the orchard with his family, but agrees to keep in touch while Jerry explores the world. This is likely what draws Jerry to make a commitment to Tony. The other Alphas Jerry met, wanted him to choose either his career or them. Tony didn’t do that. There wasn’t anything wrong with Jerry either from the standpoint of him being independent. I do think the character voices were too similar. The way I could tell Tony and Jerry apart was through their jobs/locations, and their mannerisms.

There were a couple other issues I had with the writing other than the similar voices. There were some inconsistencies that I easily spotted. I don’t know if the author had betas/editors/proofers go over the story, but they should have spotted the mistakes. One of the mistakes was that Tony introduced his sons to Jerry twice. The first time when Jerry showed up at the door and the boys were standing there watching, and the second time later in the day, I think it may have been before dinner. This inconsistency is easily fixed by not having the boys present when Jerry arrives at the house, then leave the introductions later on. If a reader can spot this, why can’t betas, and especially an editor? There were some grammatical errors with wrong word usage/spelling also.

Overall, I enjoyed Apple Pie Pair. I did jump in reading this series with the fourth book, but I didn’t feel lost. This can be read as a stand-alone. I’ll likely read more books by this author in the future to see how she handles her other mpreg stories. So far, I like the independent omegas. I give this book, 4 Stars.
