I've been trying to pace myself and read through this book much slower than I normally do, both just to savor the writing and to be ready for the last book in the series. I think I did pretty well, but it is so hard to read a Mark Lawrence book slowly when all I want is to find out what happens next. Anyway, the book starts when Yaz and her group have left the under-the-ice world of the Broken and are now in the mountain stronghold of the priests. As others have noted, this book is a two-parter, both exciting. First, we find out about the priests' schemes, and then we follow Yaz and company as they set out for the green belt in the south. Interwoven into the story are bits from Mr. Lawrence's other books. I'm always happy to meet up with Taproot again in all his incarnations, and The Book of the Ancestor series has an important part to play here. The writing is lovely, as always, and the character growth is strong. Yaz has a compelling character arc as she learns to cope with her powers and the group of odd friends she's accumulated. There are some good twists and quite a cliffhanger ending. I may have timed my reading speed a little short as I want to dive into the next book, but I have a couple of weeks before it's out. I'll be counting down the days. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Why any human ever wanted to move into the Arctic is quite beyond me, i struggle at 51 latitude.
Ho hum, one more book left in the trilogy, and at least we know it's not going to be more ice -- at least at the start of it, anyway. ( )
