Fifteen year-old Andy Zadinski receives an alarming phone call from a man named Zeke who claims he has killed a woman. After no one believes Andy about the incident, Andy takes it upon himself to investigate and discovers that the local college student has not been killed and that the potential killer is a math professor who teaches with his father.

Avi succeeds in hooking the reader in the first few sentences of the book. The reader learns that Andy, the protagonist, receives a phone call and the voice on the other end claims that he has just killed someone. Immediately the reader is drawn in and wants to know who this voice is and why he is calling Andy. Suspense builds throughout this mystery thriller as Andy tries to uncover who the man is behind the voice after the police, his father, and the school counselor do not appreciate the seriousness or plausibility of Andy's story. The plot moves quickly and will appeal to young adult readers looking for an enjoyable book full of suspense. Young adult readers will be able to relate to Andy's situation, as he is not taken seriously and struggles with doing the right thing, as he wants to protect the young woman but does not want to hurt his father.

The book was pretty bad, but it was one of the better school novels we read. I thought it was wierd how on the first page, you know what the mystery was, but I wouldn't consider it a mystery because they giuve you the answer halfway through the book. ( )

Pulsating. I read when I was eight and wanted to make a movie about it. Not Avi's regular writing much more intense. ( )

This book was on a middle school summer reading list. Not what I usually expect from Avi. Awfully dark. It is like a beginning thriller novel for teens. Not too scary, but still pretty intense. The writing does keep you engaged so you can see what is going to happen. The reality factor seems a little low and it is frustrating that his dad and the police are so unwilling to take him seriously. ( )

Andy is being convinced that it was all a joke. i this part Andy introduced his father named Dr. Zadinski. He works at a college, and is a teacher for mathematics. One afternoon Andy went to his fathers office and a contact book and decided to look for the name nina. He found out that it her name was real, it wasn't just random. He looked for her and found out she looks like how Zeke had described her. So now he doesn't believe its a joke. In his house he had other problems, his om was going to be dead for a year now. His father wants to forget about her death. His father wants to start dating, but Andy doesn't want to.

The main chracter name is Andy. one night Andy gets a call an hears "i killed some one". Andy says who is this the person says "Zeke". zeke says i just killed my girl friend. Andy says what was her name. zeke says "Nina".The only thing in Andys mand is the police. Pual Andys friend ia worried listening to him across the room. Andy tells him to call ythe cops. he goes to the nieghbors house an uses the phone. Andy is on the line with zeke. but when zeke hanges up, Andy goes to the police station an ask if they got the call. but they wouldnt belive him. They just say its a cry for wolf.
