Cute poems that deal with the everyday situations of family life, teaches young readers that all families have their ups and downs, but with the ups and downs of family life, families always stick together no matter what, the lack of pictures might not be appealing to younger children, fun for parents to read together with their kids, for independent reading, this would best for older children Lovely collection of poems that reflect family values and modern family life. There are about 150 poems that cover topics such as belonging and togetherness. I would recommend these for students struggling at home or with family issues, these could be a great way to inspire family bonding or friendship bonding in school. Appropriate grade level: Grade 2- Grade 5 this book is a collection of poetry that captures many aspects of family relationships and interactions. The poems reflect diversity of modern family life. The themes of the poems are love, togetherness, family feuds, and shared memories as a family. This book have delightful illustrations that add a spark to the poems. Uses in classroom: This book can be used a resource to show students diversity. Writing Assignments about their family , and students will shared and talk about their families. The book of Family Poems is terrific for the age groups 1st through 5th grade. Not many illustrations are rendered black and white with standard text. The poems in general are written with warmth and humor and examine family life and childhood. The poem selected was My Brother. It’s a sister's perspective of the arrival of her new brother. The poem lists the sister's complaints about the infant’s activities and feels that he should be replaced with someone like her. Site words could be pulled out and have definitions applied. A word web could be created using synonyms on one side and the definitions on the other. This anthology of poems teaches children about the diversity of family relationships. In the introduction the author explains that a family means many different things to different children. “No one’s home, no one’s life, and especially no one’s family is exactly like anyone else’s” (p. 12). This anthology provides ease of use by including: (a) a table of contents by chapter; (b) an index of poets; and (c) an index of poems by first lines. The author provides an acknowledgment thanking the copyright holders for their permission to reproduce the poems. Simple, pen and ink drawings are sprinkled throughout the book. The heavy-stock paper will withstand many turns of the pages. A very comprehensive collection of poems. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
