I like this book. It's a great book to use when discussing rhythm or even Louisiana. This is a very fun book. ( )

Maybelle wants a drum and her parents will not buy one for her. So she finds two sticks to play with instead. She continues to bang her two sticks on everything imaginable throughout the house until her frustrated parents ask her to make noise elsewhere. When the bridge on which Maybelle bangs her sticks collapses, she lands in a swamp with crocodiles. After recovering from her initial fear, she plays her rhythm on the crocodiles’ teeth and soon they are friends. She brings them to her neighborhood. After seeing the crocodiles, Maybelle’s frightened parents decide to buy her a drum after all. I love the creative rhyming and colorful illustrations. Great to incorporate in to a creative writing lesson, music lesson, or English lesson. k-2 ( )
