The Nazis are looking for the key to unlock millions of dollars that have been hidden in secret bank accounts. A brilliant young boy has been given the locations and numbers by his equally brilliant mother, Maria, A philosophy professor. Gregor Laemmle, has been put in charge of the search for the boy, Thomas and his mother, Laemmle attempts to get inside Thomas’ head and out think him while Thomas is out thinking Laemmle. Laemmle wants to use Thomas to lure Maria to him. Maria gets in touch with John David Quartermain, the boy’s father. She doesn’t tell Quatermain he is the father and she doesn’t tell Thomas about his father, The plot is told by Thomas, Laemmle, and Quartermain. The trio and their various helpers which include Brownshirts, French police, Nazis, Spanish marksmen, French Resistance, and Quartermain’s family bankers and lawyers rush to get to Switzerland to get the numbers to the proper people. What a ride, what an exciting novel! ( )

Thomas, an exceptional 11-year old, holds the complicated codes to 724 Swiss bank accounts. The Nazis want him -- badly. Their operative is a sadistic, highly intelligent Gestapo chief. His mission is to kidnap the child and force him to give over the codes. Although there is plenty of action in this novel, the plot expands like a carefully played psychological chess game between the depraved military man and the young genius, and the stakes are Life and Death.
