This book follows a young boy has he explores what it means to enjoy things that are outside of the gender norm. This heart warming book of self love would be a good read for elementary schoolers. It is important to note that there may be some push back from parents due to the more progressive themes. ( )

My Shadow is Pink is an adorable tale about a young boy who is different from everyone else. Everyone has a shadow, boys blue and girls pink, but one young boy has a pink shadow unlike everyone else. When he is embarrassed about it, his father encourages him, telling him to be himself and do what makes him happy, even if no one else understands. It is a children's book about gender identity and embracing your differences, with rhyme and verse being the ELAR element represented. ( )
