Three delightful tales from a renowned Nigerian storyteller introduce a chapter-book heroine who is every bit as mighty as she is small.
In a trio of droll stories, award-winning author and storyteller Atinuke debuts an endearing and enduring character with plenty to prove. Tola lives in an apartment in the busy city of Lagos, Nigeria, with her sister, Moji, who is very clever; her brother, Dapo, who is very fast; and Grandmommy, who is very bossy. Tola may be small, but she's strong enough to carry a basket brimming with groceries home from the market, and she's clever enough to count out Grandmommy's change. When the faucets in the apartment break, it's Tola who brings water from the well. And when Mr. Abdul, the tailor, has an accident and needs help taking his customers' measurements, only Tola can save the day. Atinuke's trademark wit and charm are on full display, accompanied by delightful illustrations by Onyinye Iwu. Too Small Tola evokes the urban bustle and rich blending of cultures in Lagos through the eyes of a little girl with an outsize willâ??and an even bigger heart.… (altro)

This book would be good for intermediate students. This book is "Too Small Tola" written by Atinuke, illustrated by Onyinye Iwu, and published in 2020. This book is about a girl named Tola who can do anything she puts her mind to despite her small size and young age. I think this would be a good book in the classroom to teach kids that just because they are young, they can still do mighty things. This book has a lot of words and the pictures are all in black and white so this is a more advanced early chapter book, but still very simple and easy to understand.

I enjoyed this book. I think it is very empowering especially for young girls who might have something working against them like their size, religion, ethnicity and many other factors. This book focuses on a young Nigerian girl who is very small for her size but she is very determined. I think this book is for the intermediate age

Three short stories about Too Small Tola, who is turning out not to be too small at all. Set in the megacity of Lagos in Nigeria, Tola and her family live their interesting day -to- day lives -- going to the market, dealing with unexpected water outages, taking care of their neighbors. Lovely stories, with funny moments and wonderful characters. Love the urban setting. ( )

Tola may be small, and her family may live in a run-down apartment complex where the electricity and water often go out, but she has a head for math, especially counting money and measuring. These three stories beg to be read aloud--the prose is lively and colorful, with delightfully vivid characters (Grandmommy, Mrs. Shaky-Shaky, Tola, her siblings). Tola's family and community are modest in means but rich with warmth and kinship. ( )

I read this book to a 7 year old. It definitely gives a window into the world of someone else. If you are looking for action packed adventure to capture your child, this book does not have it, but it is a sweet tale.

Sometimes the electricity works. And sometimes it does not. Sometimes the water runs. And sometimes it does not. Once the elevator worked. And now it definitely does not.
