The author (who's male) has such detail for the female lead (Smoky). The intricacies of solving the crime & the camaraderie of the team like a family make this series excellent. I can't wait to read the next book! This is the second of this series that I've read, and both have been a bit over the top when it comes to evil villains. This one mixed in some old-time religion, so we get a double dose of evil. I have mixed feelings about how much I like this series. When it comes to destroying young people's lives, I really don't like to even think about it, but it seems to happen with regularity in this series, and it gets to be too much. In fact, in this one, not that much else really happened. Also, in both of the books, the villain seems to have almost super-human powers to accomplish their evil deeds. It makes it seem a bit unbelievable, and even a bit disturbing. When the villains have too much power, it seems that anything can happen, and often does. Face of Death is the second book featuring Smoky Barrett, an FBI agent who was disfigured when a serial killer attacked her and killed her husband and ten-year-old daughter, Alexa. Several months later she has returned to the FBI where she is called to a gruesome murder scene. A teenage girl named Sarah, with a gun to her head, is demanding to speak with Smoky. Smoky listens to Sarah's story which describes how her family was murdered when she was a child, yet she was spared by the killer. He continues to contact her off and on over the years and considers himself an artist who intends to mold Sarah’s life as a piece of art. This book is a shocking, violent, but also sad. Smoky Barrett is one of the most compelling female characters in fiction today. She is just such an interesting balance of tender and tough. This book is packed with action, a bit of blood and gore, and plenty of suspense. It's not a book I would recommend to a lot of people because some of it is downright disturbing, but if you are a fan of serial killer thrillers, I highly recommend it. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"I want to talk to Smoky Barrett or I'll kill myself." The girl is sixteen, at the scene of a grisly triple homicide, and has a gun to her head. She claims "The Stranger" killed her adoptive family, that he's been following her all her life, killing everyone she ever loved, and that no one believes her. No one has. Until now. Special Agent Smoky Barrett is head of the violent crimes unit in Los Angeles, the part of the FBI reserved for tracking down the worst of the worst. Her team has been handpicked from among the nation's elite law enforcement specialists and they are as obsessed and relentless as the psychos they hunt; they'll have to be to deal with this case. For another vicious double homicide reveals a killer embarked on a dark crusade of trauma and death: an "artist" who's molding sixteen-year-old Sarah into the perfect victim - and the ultimate weapon. But Smoky Barrett has another, more personal reason for catching The Stranger - an adopted daughter and a new life that are worth protecting at any cost. This time Smoky is going to have to put it all on the line. Because The Stranger is all too real, all too close, and all too relentless. And when he finally shows his face, if she's not ready to confront her worst fear, Smoky won't have time to do anything but die. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
