I died for beauty, from the Portable Poetry collection, is a selection of poems by Emily Dickinson that allows us to delve into the desires that the author contained in her verses. Texts devoid of decorations and rules that speak of women, illness, death and what awaits us afterwards. Emily Dickinson is undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic scholars in the history of literature, a woman who died at the age of fifty-five while she was unknown and having published only seven poems. She had actually written almost two thousand and it was her sister who found them in a drawer, scribbled on scraps of paper or neatly sewn into little booklets. Dickinson lived the last years of her life without leaving home, secluded in a dark intimacy that he embodied in each verse. They breathe rage against a patriarchal society that punished any hint of female independence, they are poems that rebel against the world around them and cry out for more freedom. Radical in substance and form, she eliminated verbs, punctuation marks, and connectors; she wrote without embellishment and without rules. The forcefulness of her work, her way of understanding verse, rhyme, prayer and grammar, have marked modern poetry. ------- She is the hope that wears feathers and perches in the soul, singing a wordless tune that never ends. -------… (altro)
