This free read was initially found in an anthology (can't remember which one, but it has to do with Australia), and it should be read before reading "Sea of Ruin". It is a short novella that introduces the two main characters from that book, pirate and ship captain of The Jade -Bennett Sharp (19f) and "The King of Libertines" Priest Farell (34m).

The story is an origins of how they met, and eventually fell in love. It ends in an HFN but when you read "Sea of Ruin", you learn that HFN isn't the same as HEA.

Read the blurb to find out what the book is about, but know this, if you read this you will pretty much be forced to read "Sea of Ruin" only because you can't possibly stop the story.

This might be one of the finest ways to show how immensely talented this author is. I don't read historical romance. I used to years ago and was how I fell in love with romance. Somehow, I lost interest in this sub-genre. However, if it was still of this caliber then I would revisit it. This is storytelling at it's best. Intriguing characters, great work&building, and intrigue. I'm all in for the full book now. ( )

I really prefer 3rd person storytelling with PoV from both main characters, and this was all 1st person and only the heroine. But the writing held my interest. ( )
