I read this book when I was in middle school. And the book has still stuck with me today several years later. For the longest time I could not remember the title of the book but I was talking to my friend about the book and she had read it around the same time I did and she remembered the title. I very seldom want to read a book again but I would love to get my hands on the book again and read it the second time. It is the perfect example of what a page turner should be. I loved the book and I say anyone who pick the book up will too.

This is the very first book that I truly liked. It don't have so much detail that it puts you to sleep but it don't have so little detail that it confuses the hell out of you. The book is a great example to how some books just leaves alot to the imagination and people like me that have the imagination that just goes soaring really easy; this book is the perfect breeding ground for that type of imagination. The book I did for summer reading was Reef of Death. This book was suspenseful and had great characters. When the main character Peter Collins McPhee (P.C. for short) receives a call from his Uncle Cliff that a mystery must be solved in Australia, he goes to help. There, a young Aboriginal girl named Maruul's brother goes missing while searching for his tribe's treasure. She tells of a terrible screeching sound and a boat coming near as her brother disappears. But P.C. finds a killer creature living in the depths of the reef. Then the creature attacks and kills someone close to him. When he needs help he goes to Wally Wallygong, an Aboriginal fishing shop owner, who brings them to the reef where they pretend to be attacked. The boat picks them up and P.C. barely escapes. You'll have to read to see what happens next. Overall I think this was a great book and i really enjoyed. Both of Paul Zindel books i read were highly likable and very good books. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys action, mystery and once or twice a sea monster attack.

At the beggining of Reef of Death, I felt like putting it down and not looking back. It seemed like a very boring book and Paul Zindel seemed like he put very little research and effort into it, yet I kept reading. Reef of Death is about a boy named PC. He gets a call from his uncle inviting him to accompany him with a treasure hunt. After knowing this, I thought the story would be too plain and original but it gets better. It's not pirates treasure like I thought it would be, it's an old Aboriginal fortune that was saftley hidden a long time ago in the waters off the coast of Australia. Now the Aboriginal village needs the money because they're getting kicked off their own land. PC, his uncle Cliff, an Aboriginal girl fom the village, and a few others set try to find the treasure but there is a strange freighter next to where the the treasure is supposed to be, and every time someone goes diving, a mini-whale-of-a-fish comes after them. This book becomes more and more action packed as I read and is definitely a book that I would recommend anyone in class to read. ( )

Zindel’s graphic portrayal of gruesome death scenes can make the weak stomached reader reluctant to read further; yet, for the reluctant reader, these same scenes may be enticement to read on! The sea monster is somewhat believable as is the geologist’s ability to fool the coast guard. The book wavers between realism and fantasy. Are there really diabolical scientists lurking for treasures hidden around the world? This page-turner will appeal to older teens who like adventure, can endure death and torture painted with many details, and with the hope of justice prevailing. (I must note that I don't like this genre--required to read--so my rating is skewed by my non-appeal to horror/gore.) ( )
