MALICE IN MALMO is the sixth Inspector Anita Sundstrom mystery by Torquil MacLeod.
The ‘Malmo Mysteries’ include MEET ME IN MALMO; MURDER IN MALMO; MISSING IN MALMO; MIDNIGHT IN MALMO and MENACE IN MALMO.
The mysteries do take place in Malmo, Sweden and feature Inspector Anita Sundstrom of the local police force. Characters include fellow police officers; Anita’s family and long-distance romantic interest, Detective Sargeant Kevin Ash of the Cumbria Constabulary in northwest England. Plus a whole range of not-very-nice criminals.
Mr. MacLeod is a writer living in Cumbria and became acquainted with the Malmo area when a family member moved there. The sense of place, the Swedish locales are very interesting and well-written.
The characters are realistic and likeable.
There are interesting notes on Finnish wartime refugees in Sweden during WW II. Evidently, over 70,000 Finnish children were evacuated in the face of Soviet attacks. The book’s prologue opens with one of these childrens’ experiences.
The series is an E-Book series.
Detailed plots with a lot of tension; interesting, intelligent characters; a great sense of place; terrific maps (I love maps!); good policing - all make for an enjoyable read.
