This book follows the story of a young girl who is sick and fighting illness. Unfortunately because she isn't feeling well she is unable to dance as her Powwow with her friends and cousins. The young girl and her family go to support their community and in the end she is able to understand that she will be able to dance at the Powwow next year. I liked this book but feel that it would need to be introduced to students rather than just going right in and reading it. I think it would be a good book to start conversations with both primary and intermediate students.

This book is written by Traci Sorell and is Illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight. This book would be a great read for intermediate readers. This book is a story about a Native American girl named River. It explains the different traditions the Native American people practice at powwows. River is sick and cannot participate in the powwow this year. She finds strength and courage. River knows that her community dances for the wellbeing of their people.
