Not a favorite - it advances (what I think is) the series arc, with a lot about the End of Days, but he's something of a blank and she's... Low self-esteem is annoying; self-destructive low self-esteem is worse (particularly when she runs away from the hospital). I can understand her shying away from hope, but it still annoys me. And both of them are rather sketchy as characters, mostly there to support the High Mythos stuff. Plus the Devil (and his wife, and many mentions of his daughter), a couple-three archangels, little stuff like that. The villain is pathetic, only useful for what he triggers. It's not an awful story, but not hugely interesting as RJ Blain stories go. ( ) Much better This novel is better than the previous in the series. Not to say it doesn’t have flaws, but there is a greater sense of narrative flow. There is also quite a bit of world building. The biggest flaw is Bad Guy. While the MC is well established, the Bad Guy is barely an outline. Even at the end, he is more a sum of what information has been shared than actual actions. Some his actions don’t really fit what little we know of his nature. His motivations are simply dumped out and not thoroughly explained. The romance part is actually a bit lacking. Aside from some lustful gazing and a little innuendo, there is no romance. Really rather tepid. Much better This novel is better than the previous in the series.
