"When a mysterious and ruthless new Ronin starts tearing a destructive path through the city, suspicion immediately falls on Hawkeye, but Clint has more to worry about than who's wearing his old costume. After a clash with the Hood ends badly, Hawkeye gives himself a new mission that will place him in the crosshairs of one of New York's most dangerous villains. There's plenty to like and plenty to dislike here- I personally didn't love this run, but I could see others really digging it, so it kind of lands middle of the road for me.
As far as things that worked well, I think "Freefall" does a great job at giving a very Matt Fraction-esque but fresh Clint. He's messy, kinda goofy, loves a good internal monologue, and has this rough charm to him. The way he is written is just fun, too; he's got a good voice here. The core of the story was also a neat idea to see explored, and put Clint in situations that had protentional for being fun to see him get out of.
BUT that potential gets wasted pretty heavily and gets utterly bogged down by side characters readers don't really care about (coughBrycecough), repetitive conversations, and a ridiculous amount of appearances from literally like every other superhero that comes to mind: Iron Man, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Bucky, Falcon, Black Widow, Night Thrasher, U.S. Agent, Mockingbird...it's way too much crammed in, and all these appearances really take away from the story. The ending also falls flat- there is a lot of buildup but it doesn't feel very rewarding. ( )

Interesting arc & while the ending made sense from this story’s direction, it’s character assassination in other ways and in the longevity of the character. ( )

When a new Ronin pops up, their actions quickly throw Hawkeye’s name in the gutter. But after a bad run in with The Hood, Hawkeye has more to worry about than who is wearing his costume. Clint has made it his new mission to end all of The Hood’s workings, but not in ways that are always good.

I enjoyed seeing this different side of Clint. I was constantly flipping the pages to see what in the world was going on. I hope there will be more to this storyline since this one has left Clint in a “not so great” position. There are also tons of cameos in this as well that were fun to see Clint interact with.

The art is different from what’s showing on the front cover by the way. Don’t let that fool you as to what’s inside.

I’m happy it showed Clint’s hearing aides as much as they did and mentioned him being Deaf. I’m still a bit bitter on some comic storylines that don’t make him Deaf. ( )

Clint Barton, the B-list Avenger Hawkeye, becomes obsessed with taking down the Hood, Parker Robbins, the C-list crime lord. Things become complicated when Barton has to convince everyone that he is not the ruthless vigilante running around in his old Ronin costume targeting Hood's operations. And I do mean ~everyone~ as this is basically a Marvel Team-Up book with everyone from Spider-Man to D-Man popping up in the six chapters.

It's all humorous good fun until things take a dark turn that could actually change Hawkeye's status quo -- unless the next writer says nah. ( )
